Morbidlyobese, bed-ridden 1,000 pounder

By Dr. L. Smith PhThD

The psychology of wellness is even more complex than the disease-pathogen
complexity. What has led to the self-image or persona of each person?
Genetics? Environment? Parenting? Behavior? Education? Criticism? A myriad
of other possibilities? If you view yourself as the world's fittest person
why does another person become a morbidlyobese, bed-ridden 1,000 pounder?
Why do some practice purging? Others work out seven days a
week.Vegetarianism. Low-fat meals. High Protein or Low Carbs. Gulping
water. Fasting.

There seem to be three predictable outcomes for survivors of a traumatic,
life-defining event. One will be a victim for life. Always emoting. Always
hurting. Always needing someone else's strength.

Another will become rigidly frigid externally. Never seeming to care, bat
an eyelash or express any
sentiment. P ossessing a stony face their soul is so deeply blistered the
likelihood of ever becoming vulnerable...again is nil.

The third predictable response is that of a helper. Losing interest in
material things or personal pursuits these survivors spend their lives
ministering to the needs of the hurting. It's not surprising that a large
number of counselors fall into this category.

A bizarre psychosis evidences itself when a pregnant drug addict is tested
and evaluated. When asked, "Will you draw a picture of yourself being
pregnant?" results in a drawing of a thin-as-a rail woman with an
unattached baby encapsulated like a floating basketball one to two feet
away from the mother's stomach.
